I have my color retouch done at the salon I work at, but I've never had my highlights or cut done by my coworkers. I have always exchanged services with one of my friends for the simple reason that I really like how she cuts/highlights my hair and she likes how I do hers. I have to say, it honestly never occured to me that I wasn't perceived as being a team player or that I was in any way slighting my salon or co-workers as they've never said anything or acted like it was a problem-I don't think it is one in my salon. My co-workers often ask me to cut or color their hair and they know I'm always more than happy to do whatever they ask; I've stayed late for them and I've come in on my days off. I've always been upfront about this and it doesn't seem to create any problems at all. I think this is like any situation; if you're honest and upfront about what you're doing, I think people respect that.
