So for many of us, all or most of our time is spent behind the chair in the salon. What other activities that deal with hair, do you do outside of the salon? Do you guys usually go out on your own and tackle side projects? Or, do you rally together with your salon team and paint a big picture outside the 4 walls of your salon?

Lets hear it!

I have this client/friend that always gets me to do funky do's for her. She is going to an anime convention this weekend and wanted a short purple bob for her costume. (She can pull off any kind of hair.) She came in with past shoulders brown hair with a few grown out pink candy floss chunks. I had so much fun. And Russell, the training I got from you gave me an ability to cut her hair so much easier. I love doing this kind of cut.

I don't know why in the pic of the back it looks like it is "fatter" than the right. I double, triple checked before taking pics. I guess it could be the angle.

Hi everyone ,i am new to this site.I would like to ask about underlying pigments in the hair .I always understood it as if you was lifting base 5 to 9
you would have to consider the red/orange underlying pigment from the 5. when mixing your colour ,so i would use a 9 /1 (green ash)
But i have got the colour book and that says when lifting 5-9 you will have a yellow cast shining through which will be the 9 underlying pigment.
I am having a debate on salon geek but all but one agree with me, but another one is saying it would be the yellow to consider when colouring.Very confused now????Help.............

I have just signed up for a free trial of a new service. It is a company called http://thesalonforce.com/ They manage your customers for you. They offer the following services:

client reminders

loyalty program

SMS promotions

fortnightly newsletters

Now if your running salon software like most do these days they SMS promotions and possibly the reminders and loyalty program are not going to be much interest to you.

But to have someone create and send out a newsletter every fortnight to your clients is absoulte gold.

The first 100 clients are free and then up to 1000 cost $6 a week. The clients have to be checked in but it will autosend reminders to clients at 6 weeks 12 weeks and 52 weeks from their last check-in you can also customize when the reminders are sent and what they message is, I have just stuck with their generic message, which is just a friendly reminder they are due in. No offer or discount, which is great, most clients just want to know that they are due for their appointment.

If you manage your database well, and rebook the majority of your clients before they leave, you could utilise this service just for the people who never rebook and remind that they are due to visit the salon.

Well, first of all I am very very upset!

Not because my girlfriend is mad at me today.
Not because my investment portfolio is practically non-existant due to the stock market crash.
Not because my contence is questionable due to a Tommy's Chili Dog I had for dinner last night.

I am upset because I'm an idiot. Allow me to explain.

I went to see Angelo Seminara last night. He was performing at The Avalon in Los Angeles last night. I left my home in Orange County (near Disney Land :) and hit the road at 4:30. The show started at 6 and went until 9.

After yelling at traffic for about an hour and 15 minutes straight, I arrived at Hollywood and Vine. I have fond memories of Hollywood and Vine. There was this girl who lived on the corner and, well, she didn't actually LIVE on the corner, but in a building that is on the corner... oh boy.. Moving on.

I parked, which cost me fracking $20!, and entered the line to get into the theater. Everyone was dressed and looking good! I felt particularly unattractive and like I was a troll sneaking into the League of Beautiful People.

The show was scheduled to start at 6 and like most hair shows it didn't start until 6:40. The first guy on stage was an italian guy, and after a few minutes I gave up trying to understand what he was trying to say. It hurt my brain. He basically did the Davines commercial and showed 4 or 5 videos, I say 4 or 5 as I lost count and couldn't really care less about the videos that he was showing promotion the product line. I completely lost interest in what he was saying. Maybe the $9 screwdriver I was drinking. Most of the people in the room were using Davines already so I felt it was redundant to keep plugging how fabulous they are. This also went on for about 50 minutes. Somewhere in this part a frenchman came onstage and spoke about the World Tour that Davines does every year that will be in Paris in May. I could understand him better but after awhile your ears desensitize to the worlds 'fabulous', 'great' and other things describing how awesome something is going to be.

Finally on with the show.

Angelo Seminara comes out and is a regular guy, doesn't have a monstrous ego and seems genuinely nice. His first haircut model comes on stage and he free hands the nape with a clipper and does a very nice job of it. His second model has a boat load of hair and does an upstyle that reminds me of the witch in Snow White for some reason. The third model he does an upstyle and tapes the style when he is finished taping random stripes he then spray paints color on top of the style and then removes the tape to reveal the color differences. Very nice. Reminds me of Eddie Van Halen's guitar. The end of the show includes two pre styled models and he has predone models between each segment. Overall it was a very nice presentation by Angelo and you can tell that he is a true master of his craft.

Now, why am I upset?

I had shot a lot of video of the presentation so that I could then bring here and show you guys. Well, I didn't. UGH!! While I did hit the video button, I didn't have the camera set up right, so when I did hit the button to record it put the camera into video mode but didn't start recording! I'm an idiot.......

So I am frustrated that I spent the night trying to shoot video, and nothing was being recorded...

Luckily I did shoot some still photos so the night was not an entire loss. If you'd like to see those photos you can click the linke here
